Gardein Fishless Fillets Sandwich with Vegan Coleslaw and Tartar Sauce

One question I get asked a lot is what are some quick and simple vegan options? Occasionally if I’m in a bind and am in the mood for something different, I opt for Gardein.

Gardein Fish Fillet

Gardein is a super healthy alternative to other frozen outlets and Gardein is protein-packed, 9 grams per serving! It also doesn’t hurt that it’s delicious :).

One thing that I find difficult to make is a good vegan fish option. It’s difficult to get that signature flavor that fish has, but somehow, Gardein has mastered it! If you’re in the mood for some greasy fish and chips or typically, unhealthy fish fillets, then Gardein has got you covered MINUS the grease and unhealthiness! These vegan fish fillets are crispy without being fried, plus all they require is a little bit of oven time!

For this recipe I’ve decided to create a vegan mayo-free coleslaw along with a vegan tartar sauce! You can’t have a fish fillet or fish’n’chips without proper tartar sauce, plus this tartar sauce doesn’t have any dairy or eggs, and is a much healthier option compared to the traditional dairy version!

Gardein Fish Fillet Sandwich with Coleslaw and Tartar Sauce
Recipe type: quick and easy, vegan, gardein, dinner, lunch
Cuisine: sandwich, american, vegan
Serves: 1
  • 2 Gardein Fish Fillets
  • 1 vegan hamburger bun
  • Vegan Mayo-Free Coleslaw
  • ½ head of cabbage, shredded
  • 2 carrots, shredded
  • 2 Tbl red onion, finely chopped
  • 3 Tbl tahini
  • 1 ½ Tbl vegan honey or sweetener
  • 1 ½ Tbl apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbl non-dairy milk
  • 1 Tbl Dijon mustard
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegan Tartar Sauce
  • ½ cup vegan mayo
  • ¼ cup of dill relish or chopped cornichons
  • 1 Tbl apple cider vinegar
  • 1-2 Tbl capers
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and bake frozen fillets on a baking sheet for 10-12 minutes per side until golden brown.
  2. While your fillets are baking, prepare your coleslaw. In a large bowl, add your cabbage, carrots, and onion. Set aside.
  3. In a small to medium bowl, combine your tahini, vegan honey or sweetener, vinegar, non-dairy milk, Dijon and stir to combine.
  4. Add your liquid mix to your cabbage, carrots, and onion, and stir until everything is well combined. Taste for salt and pepper. Set aside.
  5. Prepare your vegan tartar sauce. In a medium bowl combine your vegan mayo, relish or cornichons, vinegar, capers, mustard, and stir well until everything is incorporated. Taste for salt, pepper, and relish.
  6. Remove your fillets and assemble your sandwich. I suggest adding a large leafy green as a base, either kale or spinach, topped with your no-mayo coleslaw, your two fillets, and your tartar sauce.
  7. Snob Away.
